Easter Basket Outreach

Too many people in our community are having difficulty putting food on the table for themselves and their children. How frightening it must be to be without food, to wonder if you can feed your children, to constantly worry if you can stretch what’s in your cupboard until payday. Hunger and worry are quiet catastrophes that consume the mind, the heart and hope.
The Easter Basket Program to feed the hungry is a ministry to provide foodstuffs and small Easter-related gifts from St. Anne’s parishioners to needy families in Annapolis and surrounding communities the week before Easter. Parishioners choose the size and type of family they wish to buy for, and our partners at Food Link select needy families from their clientele that match these requests. During Lent, parishioners volunteer to fill plastic laundry baskets provided by St. Anne’s Parish with sufficient food for breakfast, lunch and a traditional dinner on Easter day. Most parishioners provide much more food than that required for a single day, a benefit which these families sorely need. Especially appreciated are Easter gifts and toys for children who often have none. Each basket contains a letter from the Rector and information about St. Anne’s Episcopal Church of Annapolis.
This program answers God’s call to feed the hungry during the time of Christ’s Resurrection. It provides a vehicle for the involvement of St. Anne’s parishioners in this charitable work. The Easter Basket Program spreads God’s Word and enhances St. Anne’s visibility as a caring church involved in the human concerns of our community. The program is designed to provide benefit to the donors, through the joy of giving to those in need, as well as to those who receive the baskets.
