Welcome to St. Anne's
Cool Summer Worship Offerings
The Cloud of Witnesses
The Cloud of Witnesses (Hebrews 11) are all Christians, past and present, who accompany us in our fellowship of Jesus Christ. Christianity is above all the eternal community in which we live and move and breathe. They pray for us, worship with us, enrich us, and occasionally rain on our parades.
For our Sunday 5:30 Evening Worship from June 26 through July 31 we will be exploring this cloud with scripture, reflections, music and prayer. Ned Criscimagna will lead off with a homily on the Hebrews passage.
The following Sundays will offer up spiritual heroes from this cloud: Evelyn Underhill, Thomas Aquinas, Julian of Norwich, Ignatius of Loyola, and Catherine of Siena. And our capable homilists will include spiritual heroes of the present: Thea Chimento, Jo Leslie, Corby Zeren, and Pan Conrad.
Erik Apland and Beverly Babcock will offer our musical refreshments.
So come as you are! Enjoy this nebulous wonder, and stick around for cool fruit popsicles.
St. Anne's Special Day
On Sunday, July 24, we celebrate St Anne, our patron, with a special liturgical feast. Continuing our tradition of historical Eucharists, we travel back to the day when the internet was still a toddler.
In 1997, the Episcopal Church published two rich liturgical supplements: Enriching Our Worship and Wonder, Love and Praise. We will draw on these sacramental and musical gifts to explore church worship from back in the day. The day when the original Jurassic Park trod through movie theaters. When Shania Twain sang “Love Gets Me Every Time.” OK, so it wasn’t a good year in popular culture.
Come and hear the Rev. Sara Shisler-Goff give a wonderful homily. She is very good!
Other Summer Treats
Over the 5 July weekends, Kirk Kubicek, Sara Shisler-Goff and William Bell will be preaching and celebrating on Sundays. Ron Fisher and Dick Libby will handle Saturday Evening Holy Communion.
Young Singers of St. Anne's
We are thrilled to introduce Elissa Edwards as the new Director of the Young Singers of St. Anne’s! This interfaith ensemble will consist of 20 treble voices ranging from ages 8 through 18, including boys with unchanged voices. Choristers will rehearse weekly for 45 minutes and sing monthly at our Saturday 5:30 PM and Sunday 5:30 PM services. We have extended our application deadline through August. Hurry, only a few more spots available! For more information and to apply, click here.
Summer Sycamore Tree for Children - Children's Worship added to the 11:15!
The last day of Children's Sunday Discovery and Youth Circle was Sunday, May 8th; but formation for children doesn't end because it is summer. Children may join Sunday services for the Sycamore Tree! Through the summer we are offering children's worship at 9:30 and 11:15 AM and 5:30 PM. The Sycamore Tree is designed for children who are 8 years old and younger. There is a children's lesson based on the Gospel; prayers, and music. We hope your child can join us.
Take "Flat Jesus with You This Summer and Remember Jesus is with You Always
During the relaxed summer days take a moment and meditate on the scripture or make time for deeper prayers. Any place and any time, remembering to read the scripture and say prayers with your child can be easy if you have a flat Jesus. This summer, will you be going on vacation or maybe taking a week-end trip to the beach? Perhaps you will take the kids to the water park or an amusement park, or maybe visit the grandparents or stay home in your own backyard. Pack flat Jesus in your beach bag, backpack, or suite case. Place him in a prominent place as a reminder that Jesus is always with you.
Flat Jesus a “paper doll” that may be found in the back of the church or downloadable here. Download the PDF file, print it, and you and your child may color in his clothing, skin, hair, and shoes; then cut him out and carry him with you this summer. Invite Jesus on your summer trips, take his picture, and share your journey. Send the picture and a brief description to Connie at St. Anne’s (firstname.lastname@example.org). You may also post your picture on your facebook page and “tag” St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. We will post the pictures on our facebook page and on the “Where in the World Have You Seen Jesus” bulletin board located in the parish house.
Invite Jesus into the fun of your life and take time to give thanks for his presence with you. Stay connected with St. Anne’s and share your Jesus moments. Check-out St. Anne’s Episcopal Church facebook page often to see where other families have taken him this summer.
