Share the Care
Ever need a ride to the doctor’s office and don’t have anyone to call? Ever need a meal prepared for you and your family and don’t know who or how to ask? Are you caring for an ill person and getting burned out and feel all alone? Are you experiencing an illness and can’t understand what the doctor is telling you? Can‘t get to church and feel the loss of spiritual comfort?
In the course of our lives we all experience times of celebration and stress and sadness. With families dispersed over the country and medical systems complicated and focused on the illness alone, much more is needed to truly address the wholeness of mind, body and spirit.. Here at St. Anne's we have many persons who would like to help their fellow parishioners but don’t know who needs help or how it might be best provided. In addition, some are concerned that offering to help will result in relentless burden in their already busy lives.
At St. Anne’s we have “Human Capital” in abundance. The SHARE THE CARE project is designed to organize the human capital without burdening a few. Currently, the program includes the already successful PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY under the direction of DEBBIE HOUGHTON. She very skillfully organizes a large group of volunteers to make prayer shawls and baptism blankets thus offering God’s love and comfort to the ill and new parents. A new effort, THE MANNA MINISTRY has two efforts. The first led by PAT ZENO organizes volunteers to make and deliver meals to the ill. The second led by ANNE SLOAN is focused on making a meal for new parents.
BOB OLSON leads the TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY. He has a group of volunteers who are willing to drive others to appointments. The traditional PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY continues to be led by The Rev. Gid Montjoy. Our group of volunteers visits the sick, offers the Eucharist to those who cannot get to church and continues the role of the parish nurse of assessment, advocacy, finding community resources and providing spiritual comfort.
Thanks for all who have participated thus far and encourage others of you to get involved.
