Youth Ministry
As children grow into pre-adolescence and become teenagers, St. Anne’s provides ways for young people to explore their Christian identity. We encourage young people to discern what ministries they are called to and provide meaningful ways for them to engage and develop those ministries. Young people continue to reflect on our sacred stories from scripture which serve as the basis to explore various outreach ministries, government legislation, community needs, world needs, and ways they can significantly contribute to our church community and/or the community and world at large. We understand and honor this important life transition. Thus, our programs are designed to provide both the important social activities and also a process to explore, question, and further define their Christian identity. At St. Anne’s we strive to find a balance between helping young people make connections with each other, with God, and with all parish life and ministry by growing in the knowledge of a Christian faith. Additionally, we support and recognize young people for the ministry they engage in and provide a safe place for prayer, leadership development, and exploring beliefs. Continuing in the rhythm of the children’s programs, we follow the four pillar approach to Christian formation which includes: education, experience, reflection, and celebration.
Sunday Mornings for Youth ministry is offered in three levels for the 2011-2012 year. All three groups begin their time with a light brunch and beverage at 11:00 a.m. Parents are asked to sign up to help provide food. At 11:20 a.m. young people gather in their groups to continue conversation, activities, reflection, and/or prayer. In addition to Sunday Mornings for Youth ; all young people are invited to meet in the parish hall on the first Sunday evening of the month. Beginning at 5:00 p.m., young people, youth leaders, and supporting parents* gather for dinner, social time, games, table conversations, and a youth led closing prayer. Each week a group of parents (*supporting parents) are invited to help out with the dinner and participate in the time together. Certain times of the year call for certain celebrations. At those times, the group may meet off site for the activity and the time may be slightly changed.
Here are some activities planned for 2011-2012: a ski trip, a bonfire, a water-side cookout, an overnight retreat in Northeast, Maryland and an ice skating outing. Gatherings for Advent and Lent as well as fundraisers will also be planned.
In a nut shell – young people meet every Sunday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. We call this Sunday Mornings for Youth and it consists of 3 levels (I, II, & III). Additionally, young people gather on the first Sunday evening of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. We call this First Sunday Youth Night. Young people may come to one or both.
Also, young people may choose to serve on any of our Youth Leadership Core teams. These teams typically support the ongoing ministries at St. Anne’s. Serving on one or more of the teams may require training or attendance at meetings. Some require Confirmation. However, all young people are encouraged to discern how they might be called to participate in parish life.
