Sunday Mornings for Youth
Sunday Mornings for Youth
In the 2011-2012 year, there are three levels for the Sunday Mornings for Youth ministry. All three levels begin their time with a light brunch and beverage at 11:00 a.m. Parents are asked to sign up to help provide food. At 11:20 a.m. young people gather in their groups to continue conversation, activities, reflection, and/or prayer. Sunday Mornings for Youth ends at 12:15 p.m.
Sunday Mornings for Youth Level I:
Young people who have turned 11 or 12 years old by September 1, 2011 (typically 6th and 7th graders) continue to explore the people and history of God and reflect on some of the more complex sacred stories. A variety of media and materials will help young people engage in scripture, and reflect and have conversations about life choices. Videos, Youtube clips, interactive games and reflective activities help young people engage and explore the topic. Young people also choose service projects, and participate in youth led prayers and congregational life. They are invited to participate in a mission trip planned for the summer 2012 and Diocesan Youth Ministry offerings.
Sunday Mornings for Youth Level II:
Young people who have turned 13 or 14 years old by September 1, 2011 (typically 8th and 9th graders) will focus on their “big questions.” As they continue to deepen their participation in congregational life and service/mission, they will explore the question of how God is present in world. This age group will learn from their peers and others in the congregation. Early in the year, they will choose where to go on a (domestic) mission trip for the summer of 2012. Young people may also attend Diocesan Youth Ministry offerings and serve on Leadership Core teams.
Sunday Mornings for Youth Level III:
Older high school young people; those who turned at least 15 years old by September 1, 2011, (typically 10th, 11th, and 12th graders) explore pilgrimage, other religions, mission, and life choices. There are opportunities to participate in parish life and serve on the Leadership Core teams. Mid-year seniors will have special events and conversations which prepare them for departure from youth ministry into adult ministry.
