Experience the worship that shaped spiritual lives of Annapolis residents in 1776

Join St. Anne’s Episcopal Church’s parishioners, on Independence Day, July 4, 2026,  at 10 a.m. for Matins, according to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, which was the prayer book used by St. Anne’s Parish in the years surrounding the American Revolution. 

On this 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence from England, this service at St. Anne’s in Church Circle in Annapolis, Md., offers a rare opportunity to experience the worship that shaped the spiritual lives of Annapolis residents in 1776, with its timeless prayers, classic language, and deep roots in Anglican tradition.

This service provides an opportunity to give thanks for the blessings and responsibilities of liberty while gathering in an historic church where past generations prayed during the nation’s birth. Through scripture, prayer, and thanksgiving, attendees can remember that true freedom is ultimately grounded in dependence upon God and commitment to the common good.
