MEPPN Message on Child Care Scholarship Funding

Did you know that many working families face challenges in finding affordable child care? Our neighbors often rely on the Maryland Child Care Scholarship Program to get help in paying for child care. The Scholarship Program is severely underfunded, and funds can be cut by the Board of Public Works during the fiscal year.

This week, the Senate Budget and Taxation and House Appropriations Committees are voting on bills to strengthen child care assistance. One important bill is HB1321 Child Care Programs: Application Process and Copays. It strengthens the Child Scholarship Program for families with young children eligible for public prekindergarten, Head Start, and Early Head Start (https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Legislation/Details/HB1321/?ys=2026rs).

Please
consider contacting your Maryland legislators to support child care funding for young children.
