Reflection about Planned Giving
Bill Davis serves on the Planned Giving Committee and reflects on the reasons he gives of his time to this important ministry. “I chose to share my time and talent with the Planned Giving Committee because I know from my volunteer work and professional career what a difference planned giving makes.
I have been very active in the Rotary Club of Annapolis for the last thirty years, and I currently manage the club’s endowment fund. From humble beginnings thirty years ago, it has grown in value to over one million dollars, and that was largely due to legacy contributions. We are now able to use a five percent draw from it to help ten to twenty organizations a year in the local area with much needed grants. The visits that I and other members of the grant committee make each year to these grant applicants are the best part of it. I get to see what a difference these organizations are making in people’s lives.
As a financial advisor in my career, I was able to help clients determine who or what they wanted to make gifts to from their estate. The satisfaction they got from making these directives, while they were still alive, was often quite moving.”
