Halloween falls on a Saturday this year and Ginger DeLuca will be leading a tour of the St. Anne’s Cemetery exploring the history of the cemetery and the changing beliefs about death during the 236 years that it has been considered our City Cemetery. We will explore how and why St. Anne’s Parish acquired the land and how the cemetery grew over time. We will learn what the memorial stones tell us about how ideas of death and burial changed over time and learn how to read what the iconography tells us about the souls buried beneath them.
The tour will begin outside the Gatehouse on Northwest St. at 10:00am on October 31. Wear comfortable shoes for walking over uneven, hilly ground.
